Kate Fowles
Hi! My name is Kate.
I work as an assistant architect in Yorkshire. I studied for my undergraduate and master’s degree at UCL, graduating in 2020.
I was diagnosed with FSHD in 2006 at the age of 13, but it is only since age 21 that FSHD started to have a significant impact on my life. Although no one else in my family has FSHD, I was diagnosed very quickly. Unlike a lot of patients, I was able to access genetic testing shortly after I first displayed symptoms. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realise how important it is to have a confirmed diagnosis, not least because it has enabled me to learn about FSHD and make informed decisions. I’ve also been able to participate in natural history studies.
MyFSHD is such a useful tool for patients to educate themselves and access testing. I’m really pleased to be joining as a patient ambassador.
Please feel free to reach out!
